Permanent exhibition Matisse

Henri Matisse, collection of the city of Vence Opening on January 27th, 2018

In the wake of the temporary exhibition in 2017, the permanent room will present a selection of the municipal collection of Matisse’s work, consisting mainly of graphic works : charcoal, lithographs, etchings. The visitor will discover, in particular, boards from the publication Jazz, studies for Martiniquaise, etchings for the cover page of Les Fleurs du Mal (Flowers of Evil) by Charles Baudelaire, as well as works related to the Chapel of the Rosary : Rosettes, Saint Dominic, chasuble. Photographs by internationally renowned photographers – Henri Cartier-Bresson or Robert Capa – will witness the artist’s daily life during his stay in Vence.
